Parental Information Statement

Participant Selection and Purpose of Study

We are currently conducting cutting-edge research to examine the conditions that optimise learning and memory, in order to provide the best revision platform for your child. We are conducting this research in collaboration with psychologists (Professor Tim Hollins, Professor Chris Mitchell, Professor Andy Wills, and Dr. Tina Seabrooke) who specialise in learning and memory at the University of Plymouth. We invite your child to participate in this research project. We hope that the results of this study will enable us to deliver the best revision platform for your child.

Description of Study and Risks

If you accept our invitation, we will ask your child to study three science topics (as they normally would through the Get My Grades platform). Their knowledge of these topics will also be tested from time to time. There are no foreseeable risks to taking part in this study, but your child’s participation will help us to optimise our learning platform.

Confidentiality and Disclosure of Information

Any information that is obtained in connection with this study and that can identify your child will remain confidential and will be disclosed only with your permission or except as required by law. The results of the study will be shared with our collaborators at Plymouth University. We may also publish the results in a journal. In both cases, the data will be provided in such a way that your child cannot be identified.

Your Consent

Your decision to allow your child to participate or not will not affect your relationship with Get My Grades or Plymouth University. Your decision will also not affect your child’s access to the Get My Grades materials. If you allow your child to participate, you are free to withdraw your consent and to discontinue their participation at any time without prejudice.

Inquiries

If you have any questions or concerns about your child’s participation, please contact Charlotte Forrest ([email protected]) in the first instance. If you have a problem that you feel has still not been satisfactorily resolved, please contact the secretary to the Faculty of Health and Human Sciences Ethics Committee at Plymouth University:  Maurice Bottomley [01752 585339].
